Back the 90’s I coached the only way I’d ever known, “I” formation energy and solution football. My answer was generally that I wanted better football players as the solution to my problem. My thoughts were that I needed was an improved x participant, greater ymca player, kids with more drive, more size etc etc. It was generally the children fault, I simply needed a “good staff” and we’d do well.
What turned my head away from that “lottery” mindset was that in the league I coached in then, exactly the same clubs with exactly the same coaches won year in and year out. Some decades these clubs had ability, but often the ability degrees they had were really average. Within the businesses that have been consistently earning, there have been specific head coaches within those businesses that always gained, no matter what group they took. Humbly, I came to in conclusion that teaching and system actually mattered in childhood football and I needed to produce some changes.
Rob Waldo Emerson once said “A silly uniformity may be the hobgoblin of small brains “.Sensible and modest persons produce improvements as to the they do if what they are doing is not yielding the outcome they want. You might wish that goes for those training youth baseball as well.
Changes We Are Likely to Make in 2008
I’m now along the way to do research to repair areas of lack within our program. I’m functioning to develop greater types of talking with my instruction staffs. I feel we’re maybe not leveraging the talents of every coach in addition to we could or employing the unique expertise each of our coaches innately has as a human being. I am looking for answers everywhere; from great teaching stories to the captains and innovators of American Industry. We are also hovering too much on our coordinators to do all the basic says, adjustments and game planning. There has to become a more effective and successful means of doing things than we are performing today.
As our organization has matured, we now have a couple of guys which have some experience below their belts and we are finding a few knowledgeable new guys into the program. We want to use their insight wherever it makes sense while making sure that all our youngsters are “maxing out” on the initial skill set each people coaches bring to the table. This is a major differ from when we first started and had a lot of suspicious novice “dad” coaches. While we possibly do a greater work of this than most childhood football groups, we want to be the most effective at it, that is our standard. One of many great advantages of talking at most of the Nike and Brilliant Centers is I arrive at sit in on other speakers sessions. I reach see (research) how various effective High College and University groups do things. I’ve been fortunate to listen to coaches like Bobby Bowden, Pete Carroll, Jim Tedford and Les Miles in addition to prime High College and Decrease Section College coaches. Maybe most importantly I get to speak to 1000s of youth instructors at these clinics and needless to say through email as well.
By doing a better work in this area our kids will have a much better knowledge, progress instruction, be greater prepared and have more fun. Coaching childhood football is about X’s and O’s but it is also successfully and effectively speaking with your participants and your coaches. This can be a forgotten area in most applications that will reap huge payoffs. I promise you we shall figure out how to accomplish it greater and share that data with you when we have proven it performs and have most of the insects worked out.
